Brunswick East is an inner-city suburb of Melbourne located 5 km north from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Moreland. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 11,504 inhabitants.

Land speculators owned most of the lands of Brunswick in the 1840 decade. The bluestone quarry forced to close in 1852, ten years after the opening, because it was no more exploitable. The textile factory of the suburb opened in 1922 and became a pillar for the area in term of development and economy.

Nowadays, many shops, cafes and restaurant are open on Lygon Street. There is one restaurant strip which is called “Little Italy” further in the south of this street. The CERES Community Environment Park (Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies) is in the south of the suburb. Actually, Lygon Street and Nicholson Street concentrate the majority of facilities in the city.

There is also a bunch of open spaces in this area. If you like quiet walk you can visit several park and reserve around Brunswick East. One of the best is certainly Merri Creek reserve where you can see beautiful landscapes. During the 20^th century three primary school (one is catholic) established themselves in Brunswick East.
