Blackburn South historical note
Blackburn South is a residential suburb of Melbourne located 16 km east from the CBD of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Whitehorse. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 10,793.
At first, apple orchards occupied the lands. The first post office opened in 1954 and the residential development of Blackburn North started in 1960 decade.
The Blackburn South Sharps, one of the most important part of the Melbourne sharpie gang installed themselves in the city for 1970s years. They inspired several modern exhibitions and documentaries.
If you like quiet walks, you can find lot off park in the area including the Wurundjeri Walk Trail, which provides an excellent creek-side walk. There is also the green corridor near to McCracken Avenue. In term of sports there is a tennis club and cricket facilities in Blackburn South. Actually, there is few primary schools and one high school in the suburb.
