Bentleight East historical note

Bentleight East is a suburb of Melbourne located 14 km south-east from the central district of the city. The area it’s under the local government of the City of Glen Eira. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 27,635 inhabitants.

Henry Dendy, an English farmer bought most of the lands in the area in 1841. The infamous Thomas Bent named the suburb after him during 1950s and the first post office opened in 1955.

The Glen Eira Sports and Aquatic centre is one of the features of the suburb. The Yarra Golf Club is also located in Bentleight East on Warrigal Road.

There is four different primary school in the area all are state-run. The is also one Catholic High School.
