Balwyn North historical note

Balwyn North, or North Balwyn is a suburb of Melbourne located 10 km east from the central district of the city. The area its under the local government of the City of Boroondara. According to the 2016 census the suburb had a population of 20,406 inhabitants. The north-west part of Balwyn North is also known as “Bellevue” and the eastern part as “Greythorn”.

Balwyn North was one of the first Melbourne’s suburb to be developed according the pattern of post war suburbia. Built with lot families houses and places this suburb opened it first post office in April 1937. Few years later the area of Greythron grew to become a resident part of Balwyn North. The park of Greythorn was identified as a wildlife sanctuary back in the years 1930s to 1950s.

Nowadays Balwyn still an influent suburb of Melbourne, occupied by middle and upper classes. There is some of the bests Victoria private school located here. Further the area is full of diverse park and reserve when you can do some quiet walk.
