Aspendale historical note

Aspendale is located 27 km South-East from Melbourne’s central district. This suburb is part of the local government of the City of Kingston. According to the census of 2016 Aspendale had a population of 6,940. The suburb is directly connected with inner Melbourne’s districts due to the proximity with Nepean Highway and Frankstone line. The first post office opened in 1908.

Before European statement after the World War II, Australian Aboriginals occupied the lands of Aspendale. Before the residential development the area was made of sand dune on the coast. But the European arrival changed radically the ecology of the suburb.

You can still find blocks of old houses from years 70s, 60s in the area. Now houses are typically detached and made of bricks. Many streets name referenced the nautical heritage or racehorses.

In term of entertainment there is the famous Rossdale Golf Course and the Aspendale Life Saving Club in this area. For sport club the bigger is the Australian rules football club which compete in the Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League (team of Gerard Healy and Dylan Shiel).
