Alphington is a suburb of Melbourne, located 7 km north-east from the business district of the city. It’s part of the government aera of Cities of Derebin and Yarra. Back in 2016 Alphington had a population of 5,080.  Above all, Yarra river int the south and the Darebin Creek in the east bounding Alphington.

Darebin creek aera is the traditional country of the Woiworung clan, who are the traditional owners of the country west of Melbourne. At this moment, for the clan Alphington was a source for fresh water and food. Furthermore, the suburb was also a good place to find the resources necessary for clothing due to the fauna. Bridge Hotel followed by the Darebin Creek Bridge were the first noticeable monuments in Alphington.

Sir William Manning decided to name the suburb Alphington in reference to his birthplace in England. The first office with this name opened in 1858. At this period, the Yarra river attracted lot of businessman who owned a carriage. At first Alphington was a good place for water and gas installations. Once public transport arrived in the area, the houses area grew in the suburb.

Alphington is a good place where you can find parks easily. I am thinking about the Darebin Park or Alphington park, which are great to peace walking or footing. You can observe lot of Gum Trees in this area and other indigenous fauna revegetated by the population few years ago.

Alphington also contains sport places or clubs, like the Alphington Swimming Pool or the Latrobe Golf Club. And it’s to note that you can find here the Melbourne Innovation Centre.

Local schools include Alphington Grammar School, Alphington Primary School, and St Anthony’s Primary School. However, Alphington residents north of Wingrove Street are within the zone for Fairfield Primary School.
