iPad 2 will hit Australia on March 25. Here are a few things you need to know before getting your hands on one of them.
The next-generation iPad is lighter, speedier and gutsier than the beloved original. It also has new features, for example, front and rear cameras. And while Apple is remaining quiet about the new addition and is yet to set a price for Australian markets, I can help you get your head around all the hype.
Where do I get one?
Only Apple stores will secure the initial units destined for Australia. The major electronics retailers, department stores, telecommunications providers and authorised Apple resellers will follow only after the initial madness in Apple stores across the country. Reports also suggest that iPad2 is unlikely to vanish quickly. Apple learned from the lines that were there at the launch of iPad1. The new device is better than its original and Apple is expecting similar demand. If the US example is anything to go by, people are likely to wait for a few weeks if they do not get their iPad straight away. Apple is intentionally spreading the stock thin across the country to fire up a feeding frenzy. So, get you name down now. You should be able to do it with JB Hi Fi
Profiteers are also expected to start selling the device on trading sites such as eBay and Gumtree for a bomb.
How much will iPad2 cost?
The original launched in Australia last year at $629 for the entry-level 16GB Wi-Fi model. In anticipation for iPad 2, stores have already slashed the price of the original iPad to $449 with discount department store Big W going as low as $398. The older version may come down in price even further as demand for iPad 2 rises. How much iPad will cost in Australia is anyone’s guess.
